Health & wellbeing is part of our business

Safety is not just about process but about creating a safety culture that supports people both mentally and physically. In 2013 the project team on the new Royal Adelaide Hospital embarked on a journey to support the industry suicide prevention program Mates in Construction. With over 3400 people inducted into the program, the new Royal Adelaide Hospital has recently become the largest project in Australia to receive MATES accreditation. The project has collaborated with over 120 contractors over 2 years to support the health and wellbeing of everyone on the project from office staff to apprentices up to experienced leaders and directors.

Michelle Caston, CEO of MATES in South Australia commented “This project showed true collaboration and a sincere commitment to make a positive impact on the project community and really make a difference”.

Alongside projects in South Australia, Hansen Yuncken has introduced the MATES program nationally with projects in NSW and QLD also achieving MATES accreditation during 2015. As a business Hansen Yuncken is committed to raise awareness and help reduce the stigma and shame traditionally associated with mental health issues.
