Graduates thrive in Tasmania’s construction boom

Employing more than 20,000 people across Tasmania, the building and construction industry is critical to the State’s economic growth. With a peak in the number of major building and infrastructure projects totaling more than $1b, it’s no wonder that experienced and emerging construction professionals are flocking to the State.

As with all major builders, Hansen Yuncken has secured its own piece of the construction pie, including Parliament Square Stage 1A, The Hedberg Preliminary Works and the Glenorchy Integrated Care Centre. An opportunity to expand the diversity of our team in response to the construction peak, has resulted in our latest recruitment drive.

In partnership with the University of Tasmania, our newest undergraduate and graduate recruits are actively engaged in the management and coordination of our projects across multiple work streams including design, estimating, planning, quality, programming and safety. Efforts are made to not only develop our graduates technically, but also encourage personal and professional networks. Through Peer Group Meetings, graduates are offered greater exposure, engaging with interstate peers and national managers to gain maximum exposure throughout all aspects of the business.

Planning is now underway with a local engineering firm to promote networking and collaboration between our respective Graduates to enhance the day to day working relationship on an existing project. Hansen Yuncken engineers will shorty host a breakfast where they will provide a demonstration on the practicalities of using BIM360 in the field to enhance the quality control process during structure works. We look forward to other companies reciprocating with similar forums hosted by their Graduates later in the year.
