160,000 man hours drives GC2018 to completion

Coomera Indoor Sports Centre is the first complex completed ahead of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games on Queensland’s Gold Coast, 18 months ahead of the event.

160,000 man hours has been the driving force behind the $40mllion Queensland Government project which was handed over on the 3rd August bang on time and on budget.

The Coomera Indoor Sports Centre has provided new world class community infrastructure for one of the Gold Coast's fastest growing regions. This new multi-purpose facility accommodates a range of community facilities and indoor sports such as netball, soccer, gymnastics and basketball. The venue has been designed to world-class competition standards with potential for elite training and competition use. Key features of the venue design include a gymnastics arena and eight mixed-use sports courts.

Coomera boasts the largest sports floor currently built in Australia with 6,500m2 of American Maple which will cater for up to 7,500 additional spectator seating and equipment for major international sporting events. At 22 meters high, Coomera is also one of the highest indoor sports venue in Australia. Unique in its design, the steel structure has no internal columns. The trusses have an internal span of 82 meters with each truss fabricated in 3 sections of up to 29m in length. Erection of each truss required a 100 tonne mobile crane, a 70 tonne crawler crane and four boom lifts, working simultaneously, to connect each of the three truss sections to the columns.

Impressive in scale, design and functionality, the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre will become a legacy for local sporting enthusiasts.
