Construction runs in the Beslich blood

Congratulations to Chairman and Executive Director David Beslich who has reached an incredible 40 years of service at Hansen Yuncken.

“From my early days of being taken along to building sites with my Father, I always had a passion for building. It was however, a visit to the Sydney Opera House at the completion of the shell construction in 1969, when I decided to be an “Architect".

Having studied Architecture at University, David joined the Business in 1980 in a design and construction capacity before moving into various construction roles from Site Manager, Project Manager, Construction Manager through to NSW State Manager.

Subsequently, David became Project Director playing a fundamental part in bidding, winning and delivering a number of complex PPP projects; Schools 1 & 2 ($180m), Orange Hospital ($200m), the Building the Education Revolution ($750m) and Chair of the JV partnership on the $1.2bn new Royal Adelaide Hospital. In 2011, at the age of 53 David was appointed Chairman of HY.

With the same energy and passion for delivering excellent building projects for his Clients, David has been pivotal in the establishment of HB+B Property, a “brother" business to HY that broadens the HY construction and delivery skillset into a specialist company in Property solutions and Development Management Services.

David holds several private Board positions and sits on a range of Government and education advisory committees, solidifying HY's position in the industry as a leader in construction technology and a pioneer of change.

David's passion for innovation underpins his vision for the future of HY; new skillsets, and the ability to integrate smart technologies within the traditional construction management processes has put HY on the map, through design and development of the in-house collaborative information platform HYway.

Central to David's leadership philosophy is the importance of people. He is passionate about their development and training and their engagement with new and smart technology.

In the recently published HY 100 Year book David states:

“Hansen Yuncken builds complex projects particularly well because we value our processes and the skill of our people... Good people produce good projects. That's the HY difference."

It is through his active involvement and broader vision for the Construction industry that awarded David the rare honour of the Australian Institute of Building Medal in 2018; recognising his leadership of HY and his contribution to the construction industry. David is the youngest recipient of this medal, others who include Sir R Hornibrook, Sir A V Jennings and Jack Hutchinson. It was also the first time that the award was made separately to both David and his father, Ron Beslich.

There is no doubt that David's contribution to HY's past has helped pave the way for a very successful future.

Congratulations David on 40 years of service.
