As Central Western NSW’s main hospital, this $250 million Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project was extremely important to the surrounding communities. Situated on the existing Bloomfield Mental Hospital site in Orange, it involved the delivery of a new 300-bed hospital, 60-bed acute mental health unit and 40-bed secure mental health unit, as well as heritage refurbishment to existing mental health and administration buildings.
Comprising the design, construction, finance and maintenance, and working adjacent to operating facilities – as this dynamic project evolved, the building size increased by 20%. As a result, the careful coordination with consultants and service providers was paramount to integrate the increasing scope while maintaining open communication channels with the client. Despite the remote regional site, the project was successfully resourced to meet the changing scope and still completed well ahead of schedule.
