Royal Hobart Hospital PET/CT Scanner, TAS

This project involved the demolition of existing fitout, installation of major structural steelwork to Lower Ground Floor level to support the installation of lead shielding, construction of a new PET/CT Suite, SPECT/CT Suite and associated rooms.

One of the main challenges of this project was the installation and procurement of lead for shielding of floors, walls and ceilings to multiple rooms.  This was a requirement due to the radioactive treatments undertaken in such a Department of the hospital.  This was very labour intensive and in some rooms involved up to four layers of lead shielding.  The hospital has been a very challenging and unique environment within which to work. we became educated in infection control and its importance and then managed this information and required protocols with all subcontractors.
