HMAS Creswell is the Royal Australian Navy’s premier training campus. The diverse and technically complex upgrade of this base involved heritage restoration, refurbishment and environmental remediation and infrastructure upgrades within an environmentally sensitive marine area. Hansen Yuncken designed and constructed new combat survival training facilities – the School of Survivability and Ship Safety –introducing new capability without precedent in Australia and the upgrade of all civil infrastructure and base wide services, in addition to an innovative, foam treatment facility.

Upgraded staff amenities included new military accommodation, pools, fitness centre and ‘Geelong House’ – a class room with operable wall allowing conversion to a 300 seat function room with full commercial kitchen and bar facilities. Avoiding disruption to base operations was paramount to the logistics’ planning was; this required detailed upfront scheduling and programming, working closely with the client. The successful outcome demonstrates Hansen Yuncken’s ability to design and deliver technically complex solutions of a high standard and quality in a collaborative working environment.
