Positioned at the entrance to Melbourne's Deakin University, the Burwood Highway Frontage Building features academic and high-level research spaces directed towards accommodating the university’s expanded Faculty of Health.

Hansen Yuncken partnered with Woods Bagot to create this world class educational facility. The 17,000m2 building has been oriented away from the highway, creating two north-facing courtyards that act as social gathering spaces for the public and university community. The emphasis was on providing excellent indoor ambience and environmentally sustainable design, achieved through a high-performance facade, elevated levels of controlled daylight penetration, underfloor air distribution, active mass cooling, low energy usage, high water efficiency, cyclist facilities, solar hot water heating and sustainable materials.

Hansen Yuncken implemented a number of new processes and risk aversion techniques to improve safety outcomes. Managing competing interests for the highly involved stakeholders (including university academics, financial and administration staff, and the public) ensured the successful delivery of the project.
