Sustainability

Gently changing our world.

We tread lightly.

They say that the future is in sustainable construction. But we believe that without sustainable construction, we won’t have a future at all.

That’s why we’re proud to lead the way to a more environmentally sensitive way of working. Every decision we make – from the choice of materials and processes to construction waste management and ongoing maintenance – takes our ecological footprint into account. We’re also part of the Green Building Council of Australia, helping develop Green Star tools and rating systems for the entire industry.

And this commitment shows in our work. Our Council House 2 project in Melbourne incorporated ground-breaking environmental design, with evaporative cooling, recycled water systems and thermal efficiency. Shortly after completion, it was awarded an unprecedented Green Star 6 Star Rating. While our Metcash Distribution Centre project in NSW was the largest industrial building in the country to receive a Green Star 4 Star rating – an incredible achievement for what consisted, in essence, of a 70,000 square metre refrigerator.

We make friends, not just buildings.

Community is not something you’re given, but something you build. And ever since Danish migrant Lauritz Hansen jumped ship in Melbourne, making a living as a labourer before establishing his own company in 1902, we’ve built our business around our choice to be friends with the community, not above it. After all, the future belongs to all of us.

That means we get involved in proactive community initiatives, using our size and reputation to make a difference where it counts. From creating therapeutic and reflective community gardens, to championing our local charities, we’re continually investing in those around us.
