Hands on deck for St Kilda Police Citizens’ Youth Club Community Centre

It was all hands on deck this week as the Hansen Yuncken team volunteered their time to give back to the community and refurbish the run down St Kilda Police Citizens’ Youth Club (PCYC) community centre.

Providing construction assistance, a solid crew of 17+ headed down to 175 Inkerman Street with tools in hand to erect 45 metres of property boundary fencing and provide a much needed face lift to the PCYC.

Hansen Yuncken, including State Manager and Director Richard Hansen was joined by key members of PCYC’s management team including CEO & General Manager, Christine Fitzherbert and Facilities Manager & Youth Programs Officer, Jacob Kernahan.

Ensuring that the team was well fuelled for the day’s activities, upper echelon’s Louise Hansen and Brian McAdam fired up the BBQ proving that their core values and community focus are an integral part of the Hansen Yuncken culture. With pre-start meetings commencing at 7:30am, it took no time at all for Hansen Yuncken to collaborate and join forces with the PCYC team to get their hands dirty digging, drilling, cutting, concreting and nailing the fence to completion.

Thanks to the entire team for lending a helping hand and sharing their combined skills and expertise for this worthy cause. Special thanks also go to the project partners including Boswen Fencing, AWARE and Cemetery Constructions for making this project possible.

By assisting the local community, Hansen Yuncken is making a real difference to the lives of young people taking refuge at the PCYC boarding house. The self-funded charity has been helping disadvantaged youth since 1947 and aims to reduce suicide rates, depression and crime amongst Melbourne’s youth. PCYC manages a house at 175 Inkerman Street, whereby the 18-25 year old tenants have worked their way through the Salvation Army program and are now positioned in the halfway house as a place to set them up for the future. It teaches them lessons they require to leave the program independent and ready to tackle life’s challenges head on.
