Dame Phyllis Frost Health & Wellbeing Centre and Gatehouse
The Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, a maximum-security women’s prison located in Deer Park, Victoria, accommodates female prisoners of all security rating levels and categories including reception, remand, sentenced, management and protection. A small number of young children are also accommodated with their mothers.
The Health and Wellbeing Centre component of the project involved construction of 22 cellular units, an additional 22 outpatient beds and 26 mainstream beds, along with the conversion of the existing mental health unit to accommodate special protection prisoners. The team also upgraded existing infrastructure in the kitchen, laundry, food industry, health centre and portable industry building areas.
Midway through delivery of the Health and Wellbeing Centre, the new Gatehouse component of the project was added by the client. Additional new fire and domestic cold water tanks and a full refurbishment of the existing administration communications building were also completed during this time.
