With a purpose built Elective Surgical Service Centre containing state of the art hybrid operating theatres, Illawarra and South Coast residents would no longer have to travel to Sydney for specialist treatment of complex cases. The six storey centre accommodated seven new operating theatres, 14 Stage One recovery beds, 72 new surgical beds, six additional intensive care and high dependency unit beds, 10 new emergency department beds, a new ambulatory care facility including 22 clinical spaces, and a new sterilising department.

Our project team overcame a series of challenges associated with an operational environment and implemented an industry leading Infection Control Plan. With a strong focus on community, our project team developed a highly successful Aboriginal Participation Programs and actively participated in the national Mates in Construction Suicide Prevention Program.
