University of Newcastle NUspace

Located in the heart of Newcastle’s CBD, the NUspace precinct is a striking addition to the city’s skyline. Expertly designed by EJE Architecture and Lyons Architecture, the nine storey vertical campus was designed to promote connectivity and collaboration in state of the art facilities.

First building in the Hunter Region to achieve 5 Star Green Star Rating

Environmentally friendly with 220 bike racks

14,000m2 of technology rich learning space

Delivered in the heart of Newcastle CBD

Awarded a 5 Star Green Star (Design & As Built) Rating, sustainability underpinned the project with features designed to minimise energy consumption. External sun shading, high performance double glazing and thermally engineered aluminium frames, NUspace maximises natural ventilation, collection and repurposing of rainwater and landscape irrigation.

Interactive learning spaces and views over Newcastle are available from all internal spaces, heightening student’s connection to the city

Diverse, flexible spaces such as the three level learning ‘landscape’ at the ground plane, with cafes, social seating, learning spaces and integrated student ‘concierge’ services, allow students to self-organise and create their own cohort communities. In collaboration with the local Aboriginal community, the Awabakal people, artwork depicting the eagle hawk totem was incorporated into the ceiling panels, symbolically protecting the students below.
