The redevelopment Program Stage of Risdon Prison Infrastructure presented unique challenges in constructing specialist new facilities while inside a live prison environment, requiring meticulous planning and liaison with the prison operator.

A secondary Sally Port formed part of the early works, providing secure and segregated access during the construction phase, with later use as a permanent emergency prison egress. Exercise yards for the Maximum Security accommodation were also extended before initiating the main works which involved new premises for the tactical response group, a new activities and education building, an extension to the industries building and miscellaneous works to the medium education and gatehouse buildings and internal alterations to existing maximum and medium security buildings.
