The unique building forms of the Adelaide and Melbourne airport control towers – 50 and 78m high respectively – required an innovative approach to construction methodologies and materials selection.

Using an in-situ concrete structure, precast panels and a cabin structural steel framework, the Adelaide tower features a two storey administration building wrapped around the core of the tower.

In-situ concrete was also used in Melbourne, requiring continual 24/7 pouring to achieve 300mm every hour, until reaching the top of the 78m tower, where precast panels were also erected on an angle.

The viewing areas in both towers are clad in triple glazed windows and furnished with the most advanced air traffic control communication and technical equipment.
