This stunning new 14,00m2 facility – collocated and linked to the Albury Hospital but with an independent address – will provide the best in cancer care to the regional community. Not constructed with the traditional aspect of a hospital, it will be functional and inviting with individual inpatient rooms and courtyards open to the light.
Organised around two courtyards at ground level, spaces avoid the traditional 'cave' approach to Radiation Oncology. The 30-bed inpatient ward on the second floor features rooms built around two v-shaped spaces and a day-oncology unit with 30 chemotherapy chairs giving patients an outside view on the first floor.
Many building methodologies employed are a first for the region, such as the pre-cast concrete slabs lifted onto the steel framework by crane, with concrete poured over the frames to complete each level, upskilling the local workforce through the process.
