Adding to Hansen Yuncken’s considerable experience in delivering Performing Arts and Cultural facilities, the Thomas Dixon Centre Refurbishment and Performing Arts Expansion provides new world class facilities, enabling the Queensland Ballet to accommodate more dancers, expand their training programs and enhance community initiatives.  

The new facilities transform West End’s historic Thomas Dixon Centre into a world leading, spiritual home of artistic excellence for the Queensland Ballet, who recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. 

The upgrade and expansion works included the refurbishment of the existing Thomas Dixon Centre and the construction of a new three-storey extension containing rehearsal and performance studio and spaces.  

 Other key features of the new facilities include:  

  • A new amphitheatre-shaped performance venue 
  • Central promenade, connecting the two buildings 
  • 350 to 400 seat performance and public studio  
  • Wellness centre, fully equipped gym 
  • Wardrobe, dressing rooms, fitting rooms and dancers lounge 
  • Conversion of five historic air raid shelters for a future Bunker Bar 
  • Administration offices, boardroom, back-of-house areas and new amenities 
  • Basement car parking over two levels for 66 vehicles 
  • Associated soft and hard landscaping to the perimeter of the site
