Housing the state’s largest Supreme Court Class Action courtroom, this purpose built facility was very important to Victorians, accommodating the inquest into the Black Saturday Bushfires. State-of-the-art in-court technology was the first of its kind installed in the state, offering live web streaming, which allowed the public to watch as the trial progresses.
The unique courtroom design incorporated high quality materials, including timber veneer panelling framing the judicial bench, while red heart eucalypt timber panels were reused from the existing fit out and repurposed to suit the courtroom. Works involved complete demolition, partitioning, carpentry, extensive joinery, full services upgrade, security upgrade, hearing augmentation and loose furniture.

The project relied on our team’s flexibility to adapt to the ongoing design process while continuing to build on-site. Communication between the various project stakeholders was fluent with Hansen Yuncken facilitating the client’s numerous changes.

Achieving all key milestones, the court was handed over on the client’s agreed date in readiness for the case, and will be used as a large flexible courtroom for different jurisdictions.
