Andrew Hammer’s Legacy Lives On
7 February, 2024Our Shepparton team has had the great privilege of playing a key role in a joint community commitment to save a special memorial destined for demolition, when the former Shepparton High School was demolished to make way for the recently completed Greater Shepparton Secondary College.
The memorial, the ‘Hammer Pavilion’, is a player shelter originally erected at the Old Students Cricket Club at Shepparton High School in dedication to 15 year old Andrew Hammer, a student and skilled cricketer and sportsman who tragically passed away in 2005.
Hansen Yuncken, as part of a joint effort with the Hammer family and the Department of Education, gave time and expertise to oversee the Pavilion’s relocation and rebuild, in its permanent new home at Kialla Recreational Reserve. Our local subcontractors and suppliers generously supported the cause by donating their time, labour and materials.
Our team involved in this community initiative – Chris Limosani, Helen Limosani, Graeme Spence and Jason Williamson was immensely proud to join the Hammer family, the Department of Education and local media; ABC Radio and the Shepparton News at the site for a ceremony on 14 December. The group gathered to celebrate Andrew’s legacy which lives on, offering shelter for young cricket players and users of the recreational reserve.
There was a very special moment as one of Andrew Hammer’s former teachers, Gary O’Brien arrived, to show his support. It was also revealed that Gary taught our very own Helen Limosani whilst she was a student at Shepparton High School.
