Building A Better Future: Hansen Yuncken Launches Updated Sustainability Roadmap
18 December, 2025Celebrating our refreshed framework alongside the completion of the University of Newcastle’s Central Coast Campus
Hansen Yuncken has launched its updated Sustainability Roadmap, marking an important step in our ongoing commitment to delivering positive environmental, social, and governance outcomes across Australia’s built environment. The refreshed Roadmap provides a sharper framework for how we will continue to integrate sustainability into every stage of our operations, from project planning and delivery to our long-term organisational culture.
The launch coincides with a significant milestone for the NSW business: the completion of the University of Newcastle’s Central Coast Campus, a project that exemplifies how sustainability ambition, client partnership, and technical capability can come together to create meaningful and lasting impact. This campus will serve generations of students, researchers, and industry partners – and stands as a tangible expression of the principles underpinning our updated Roadmap.

A Strengthened Roadmap for a Changing Industry
Our refreshed Sustainability Roadmap is built around four key pillars:
Climate: Clear actions and measurable targets designed to reduce emissions, improve resource efficiency, and accelerate our shift toward low-carbon construction.
Social Impact: Initiatives that prioritise wellbeing, diversity, inclusion, community outcomes, and meaningful partnerships that shape stronger and more resilient communities.
Health: Continued investment in projects, programs, and practices that support physical safety, psychological wellbeing, and healthy workplaces across all sites and offices.
Governance (New): A newly introduced pillar that strengthens our foundations in ethical conduct, transparency, accountability, data integrity, responsible procurement, and modern slavery prevention.
With the industry facing increasing pressures – from climate-related risks to skills shortages to the rising expectations of clients and communities – the addition of the Governance Pillar ensures our sustainability approach is holistic, future-fit, and aligned with industry best practice.

Bringing Sustainability to Life Through Case Studies
A new feature of the updated Sustainability Roadmap is the inclusion of a dedicated Case Studies section. These examples demonstrate how sustainability commitments are being realised on the ground, highlighting innovation, collaboration, and lessons learned across diverse project environments.
As case studies continue to be added over the coming period, they will support internal capability-building and provide clients and partners with clear visibility of how sustainability is embedded into Hansen Yuncken’s project delivery.

University of Newcastle’s Central Coast Campus: A Showcase of Sustainable Design and Delivery
The completion of the University of Newcastle’s Central Coast Campus is a timely reflection of the values embedded within the refreshed Sustainability Roadmap.
The project’s sustainability credentials – including mass timber, high-performance building fabric, energy-efficient systems, renewable energy integration, waste minimisation strategies and connection to Country principles – demonstrate our commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes that are environmentally responsible and community-minded.
Working closely with the University of Newcastle, user groups, consultants, and local stakeholders, our team helped bring to life a learning, research, and innovation environment that supports health, accessibility, cultural identity, and long-term regional growth. This is sustainability in practice: balancing performance, people, and place to create spaces that endure.

Strengthening Our Sustainability Journey
The updated Sustainability Roadmap is more than a framework – it is a commitment to continuous improvement. It sets clear expectations, guides decision-making, and ensures our people, partners, and clients have a shared understanding of what sustainability means for Hansen Yuncken.
As we move into the next phase of our journey, we will continue building our capability, reporting transparently, and delivering projects – like the Central Coast Campus – that demonstrate leadership in sustainable construction.
By working together across our national teams, supported by clear priorities and a strengthened governance foundation, Hansen Yuncken will continue to shape a more resilient, responsible, and sustainable future for our people, our clients, and the communities we serve.
