Bendigo Kangan TAFE Health and Community Centre of Excellence
Bendigo Kangan TAFE City Campus underwent a significant transformation, with the reconfiguration and construction of an existing building into a state of the art Health and Community Centre of Excellence. The works also included the demolition of a building to make way for a large open forecourt landscaped area, and the fitout of two small buildings into staff offices, classrooms and a music studio.
Located in a prominent position on the corner of Chapel and McCrae Streets in Bendigo, the new Health and Community Centre of Excellence connects the community by a glass curtain facade with an incorporated, cantilevered canopy supported by structural steel framing.
The internal fitout boasts a purpose built, technology-rich learning environment for the training of nursing and community services students, with large open classrooms, study areas and simulation labs that realistically replicate hospital wards, including; acute and subacute wards with ensuites, clean and dirty utilities, aged care wards, pathology wings, early childhood centres and a live in house. The facility was designed and constructed with best practice Green Star initiatives in mind, with all rooms built with high acoustic ratings, energy efficient heating and cooling and the use of sustainably sourced timber and steel.
