Strong Sustainability Focus

24,000m2 Floor Area

Complex Façade System

Construction of Health and Medical Research Building targeted a Gold Rating through the International WELL Building Institute, together with a Green Building Council Five Green Star Rating. At 10 floors high, the Health and Medical Research Building includes specialised PC2 and BC2 compliant specialist laboratories, general laboratories, offices, seminar and support facilities for Flinders University students, faculty, academics and alumni.

Supporting a strong partnership with the local Aboriginal community, the building’s design elements respect and celebrate Rainbow Country through consultation with the Kaurna people, especially elder in residence Lewis Yarluburka O’Brien. The Health and Medical Research Building also incorporates a considered Indigenous narrative and operates as a culturally inclusive and safe space.

Adelaide will be home to world class research through state of the art learning and research spaces at the Health and Medical Research Building

Situated on a sloped site with a 14 metre fall, the Health and Medical Research Building was designed to act as an accessible thoroughfare to the main Flinders University Campus. This new world class learning space houses wet and dry laboratories, work areas and public spaces. As the first building in the new Flinders Village adjacent to Flinders Medical Centre and the new Flinders rail line extension, the facility has a total GFA in excess of 22,000m2. The project has a strong sustainability focus, with the building planned to be entirely electric with the exception of laboratory gases.
