A defining feature of the development is the restoration and integration of the heritage-listed Brenan Hall. Hansen Yuncken’s involvement extended beyond the delivery of the base building to include integrated fitout works for key precinct stakeholders, including St Vincent’s Hospital and Australian Catholic University, providing high-quality, purpose-built environments that support the diverse needs of the campus community.

Delivered on an exceptionally constrained brownfield site alongside the operational St Vincent’s Hospital, Brenan Place demanded meticulous planning, stakeholder coordination and early collaboration. Working closely with St Vincent’s from the outset, the team priced, designed and integrated the fitout with the base build to ensure spaces were operational from day one, while early mechanical design engagement mitigated equipment lead-time risks.

Construction interfaces extended across hospital patients and staff, pedestrians, public roads, neighbouring construction activity and the adjacent ACMD development, requiring complex traffic management, detailed interface methodologies and carefully staged works to maintain safe, uninterrupted access throughout delivery.

A defining feature of Brenan Place is the integration of the heritage-listed Brenan Hall, originally constructed in 1889 as the Hall of Science. Rather than standing apart from the new development, the historic building has been sensitively incorporated into the contemporary precinct, with its façade partially reconstructed and refinished and heritage elements including the foundation stone and gates reinstated.

Specialist heritage contractors and engineers worked closely with the project team to carefully tie together multiple skins of existing brickwork, overcoming limited original engineering information to achieve a seamless presentation between old and new.
