St Patrick’s College Science and Learning Centre
The new Scientia Building at St Patrick’s College marks the first stage in the school’s master plan. Located in the heart of the campus, the new Science and Learning Building features a mix of general learning spaces, science and technology labs, and a food technology and hospitality centre spanning three storeys, above a 59 space basement carpark. Book-ending the new state of the art facility are four multipurpose sports courts, two on ground level and two on the rooftop.
The design of the new building features a timber framed façade with perforated aluminium blades wrapping the building. The unique timber framing for the glazing around the building was procured from Europe, and required a stringent design and shop drawing process to facilitate efficient installation on site. Given the long lead time of the made to measure system, the team worked with the architect, engineers and suppliers early in the project to coordinate the façade design and building structural levels to mitigate the risk of delays to the program, and ensure the delivered product was fit for purpose.
Critical to the success of the project was the careful delivery of the new building within the operational campus, while minimising disruption to the day to day operations of the school. Our team maintained strong, transparent relationships with the school throughout delivery of the project, working collaboratively to progress the program while mitigating the risk of disruption.
