Located on Thursday Island, the Star of the Sea Elders Village is a purpose-built aged care facility servicing the Torres Strait Islander community. Delivered across several stages, the project was delivered amongst a live environment with minimal disruption to residents. Works included a new three storey staff accommodation building, administration facilities, main auditorium complex and a significant upgrade to the existing infrastructure. Hansen Yuncken partnered with local businesses to overcome logistical challenges associated with the remote site. Star of the Sea Elders Village provides high-quality physical, emotional and spiritual support to the Thursday Island community, including residential aged care, memory support, carers support, respite care and the Commonwealth Home Support Program.
