The University of Queensland Andrew N. Liveris Building is a beacon of innovation — a space to integrate teaching with solutions-focused research to address global challenges in sustainability and manufacturing.

Providing a new home for the School of Chemical Engineering, the 12-storey building located at the St Lucia campus, spans over 21,000 m2 and includes heavy equipment and PC2 laboratories, high student load learning and research spaces, and office spaces for staff and student support.

Its mesmerising coloured exterior consists of a curtain wall made from energy-efficient glazed glass, and visually connects it to the iconic sandstone buildings of the campus’ Great Court.

Inside, the glazed central atrium stretches from Level 4 to the roof, with suspended meeting pods dispersed throughout, and open, interconnecting stairs leading to collaborative spaces for learning, research, and industry engagement. The internal colour theme transitions from the greens of the lower floors to blue in the upper levels reflecting the natural environment of vegetation and sky, with white clouds represented through groupings of the internal radial pods.

These new spaces act as a vibrant hub for industry and interdisciplinary collaboration will continue to inspire students, research scholars and staff, enabling industry partners to participate in the learning and discovery process.
