The University of Queensland’s Plant Grow Facility (PGF) will provide a world-leading research facility that underpins excellence and innovation in plant science and sustainable ecosystems for global impact.

Located at the St Lucia Campus, the PGF will position UQ as the principal plant research centre in Queensland, and one of the most elite controlled environments in Australia. The facility will enable researchers to simulate precise environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, lighting, and CO2, for research on tropical-to-temperate plant species in areas of food, fibre, fuel, and sustainable production systems.

The PGF scope includes the demolition of existing buildings, two floors of Controlled Environment Growth Rooms and support spaces, a basement, landscaping, and roof deck housing the building services equipment and glasshouses.

The project also furthers our experience in both education, and highly technical and serviced facilities, with the building designed to meet Physical Containment Level 2 Laboratory (PC2) requirements under the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR), and Approved Arrangements (AA) for a 5.2 Biosecurity Containment Level 2 (BC2) bio-containment facility.
