Hansen Yuncken: Delivering Premier Stadium and Community Infrastructure Across Australia
7 June, 2024Over a Century of Excellence
Our journey in delivering premier stadium and community infrastructure projects began over a century ago. The first non-residential project that Lauritz Hansen built was the grandstand for the Collingwood Football Club at Victoria Park in 1909.
Completed in just four months at a cost of 2,687 pounds, this landmark project set the foundation for our extensive experience in stadium and precinct development, including further projects such as the two grandstands at the Flemington Showgrounds.
Coopers Stadium Redevelopment
In the sports-centric city of Adelaide, Coopers Stadium stands out as a rectangular ground dedicated to soccer, home to the Adelaide United Football Club. This iconic venue has hosted high-profile events, including matches for the 2000 Olympics and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Initiated in 2021, the redevelopment focused on modernising the stadium to meet FIFA standards, enhancing spectator experience, and increasing capacity. Key upgrades included a 2,200m2 cantilevered roof over the Eastern Stand to protect spectators from the elements, a new glass-encased function room for corporate guests, and improved public amenities beneath the stand.
The Western Stand was also enhanced with a Media and Emergency Operations Centre and a new reception and merchandising building. Additional upgrades included new light towers, big screens, updated seating, and new food and beverage outlets.
Completed well before the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Coopers Stadium successfully hosted five matches, thanks to funding from the Government of South Australia and oversight by Adelaide Venue Management.
Carrara Sports Precinct
Hansen Yuncken proudly constructed the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre and Northern Precinct Site Infrastructure, pivotal to the 2018 Commonwealth Games’ success. The $148 million investment from State and Federal Governments facilitated the creation of a multi-purpose precinct that continues to benefit the City of Gold Coast.
The Carrara Sports Precinct Project includes:
- Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre: Comprehensive reshaping of fields, road infrastructure, and installation of lighting.
- Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium: Full refurbishment to modern standards.
- Gold Coast Suns AFL Mixed-use Office and Training Facility: New state-of-the-art facilities for the team.
- Carrara Southern Precinct: Development of three new grass playing fields and a clubhouse.
- Carrara Stadium Sports/Broadcast Lighting: Upgraded to meet broadcast standards.
This multi-faceted project not only hosted key events during the Commonwealth Games but also provides long-term community facilities, reinforcing Hansen Yuncken’s commitment to sustainable and impactful infrastructure.
Baranduda Fields Sporting Complex
Hansen Yuncken recently completed the first stage of the Baranduda Fields Sporting Complex, set to be the largest regional sporting precinct between Sydney and Melbourne.
Complete with a 700-seat covered stadium and informal viewing embankment, the new state of the art facility includes large open social spaces to host community and corporate events, along with office and meeting rooms for administration, coaching and training purposes together with associated training and support spaces for teams, officials, and media.
This initial phase involved constructing a new soccer pavilion and grandstand seating. Engaging 90% of subcontractors and suppliers from the local region, the project underscores our dedication to social procurement and regional economic advancement.
Lavington Sports Grounds
The Lavington Sports Grounds redevelopment is transforming the venue into one of regional Australia’s premier sporting facilities. This project includes expanding the existing grandstand, upgrading back-of-house areas, constructing a new Amenities Pavilion, Ground Keepers Store, and Cricket Store, and upgrading the playing field lighting.
LSG hosts a variety of major sporting events, including Big Bash Cricket, NRL, and AFL exhibition matches. It has recently welcomed AFL preseason matches, A-League soccer, and NRL games, along with being home to numerous local sports clubs. Owned and operated by AlburyCity, the upgraded facilities will support a broad range of community and sporting events, enhancing the region’s sporting infrastructure.
