Council House 2 (CH2) was Australia's first new commercial office building to be awarded a 6 Star Green Star design rating by the Green Building Council of Australia. Hansen Yuncken partnered with DesignInc to deliver this pilot project for the City of Melbourne’s Zero Net Emissions by 2020 Strategy. Since completion in 2006, CH2 on Little Collins Street has been regarded as a world leader in green technology.

Key environmental features of the 13-storey building include:

• Precast concrete façade and floor panels
• Recycled timber louvres
• Wind-driven turbines
• ‘Shower Towers’ for natural evaporative cooling of fresh air (in addition to creating fresh airflow to lower floors)
• Recycled water treatment systems
• Unique ‘phase change material’ cells as thermal storage
