As part of the first Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) project in NSW, Hansen Yuncken delivered seven new Primary Schools and five associated childcare centres in high population growth areas. By applying foresight at the conception of the project, all schools opened in record time.
Design planning was optimised across the multiple sites, considering buildability issues, ESD and lifecycle cost considerations, while developing an architectural language which endowed each school with a unique characteristic. Hansen Yuncken identified and accelerated long lead time items, prioritising them in the early design phase. Innovative, lightweight steel was selected for the roofing and the metal deck system to also fast-track the program.
Subcontractors were engaged early to ensure the buildings were weather tight, allowing concrete pouring and other activities to continue unhindered by weather. Due to this success, Hansen Yuncken undertook extensive post occupancy evaluations with school principals, construction and operations teams to refine design and delivery strategy, to further enhance the Schools 2 Proposal.
